Cuba | Dennis
I must admit that I'm a bit jealous of Dennis. I never had a meaningful relationship with my father, so I'm a sucker for a good father & son story told from the son point of view.
"I was fortunate to have a relationship with my father throughout my entire life. However, this trip to Cuba provoked us to ask questions we had never asked before. I don't have any memories or knowledge of my father any of his friends in Cuba. One of the questions I asked was if he had any friends in Cuba, the answer was yes. My Father has never spoken about his friend Calixto and on this trip, 60 years later, he was able to reunite with his friend. For my father that reunion was a breath of history. For me to witness that reunion came full-circle, as to who my father was and is today. My father would always repeat the saying, "...tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you where you're going..." Listening to my father's reunion dialogue, I could here the grit and pride in their voice. I hope your blog readers are encouraged and continue to ask questions and find the grit in their voice, even when they think hope is gone. Grit comes in many disguises, keep looking and keep asking!"
