While Pope Francis was canonizing Junipero Serra, this gentleman stood quietly on the sidewalk of the of the State Capitol greeting passerby’s with a smile. I’ve walked by him several times on my morning strolls and I always thought it would be cool to take his picture. This particular morning I was a man on a mission.  I decided it was time to as him for his portrait. I approached and introduced myself and he said his name was Gery. When I asked him what satisfaction he received from standing there with the sign, he said  with a big smile “I stand here for the Glory and the Kingdom of God.” I thanked him for his time and went on my way. I was thrilled because I got the picture, I working through my fear! BUT! I wished I would have stayed longer. I wish I asked him how long he’s been doing this and when did he know that this was was calling. I guess there’s still more for me to learn.
